Power
plant failures and inefficiencies cause production losses amounting
to thousands of crores every year. Babcock & Wilcox, through the
insights gained over 125 years of manufacture, operation, and research
of industrial, utility and supercritical boilers, has developed
proprietary technologies for boiler remaining life prediction and
extension. Reliable prediction of the remaining life of specific
components leading to redesign, repair and replacement can extend
the service life of the entire boiler by another 20 to 30 years
- at a third of the cost of a new plant.
Implementing
the Thermax Babcock & Wilcox (TBW) Life Extension Program is the
cheapest and quickest way to increase power levels in utility and
industrial generation. Data banks developed over extensive inspection
of over 450 boilers enable us to tackle any boiler problem, regardless
of make, size or fuel burned.

aims at doing, helping old and ailing power plants Regain Lost Megawatts.

The
TBW Life Extension Programme can add decades to an aging mega boiler.
Like we are doing for boilers at the Talcher Thermal Power Station,
Orissa.
At
TTPS we sent our team of power engineers and technicians to the
site and completed the condition assessment of the boilers. By comprehensive
inspection and testing we projected the remaining life of various
boiler components. By making engineering studies we redesigned problem
components and specified necessary repairs or replacement to regain
operating reliability for at least another 20 years. Problems such
as flue gas tube erosion, creep fatigue damage, pulverizer damage
and capacity losses were identified and solutions presented. When
the programme is implemented, Talcher will again operate at full
load.
